SMTPTracker
Brief introduction

SMTPTracker extends your SMTP server with message tracking, content saving, sql logging and anti-spam abilities. SMTPTracker works with Microsoft SMTP service, Exchange Server 2000, Exchange Server 2003 and other systems based on IIS smtp service. Version 3.0 includes Assassin2Exchange filter, which enables front-end SpamAssassin with back-end Exchange integration. A2E filter converts spam score headers provided by SpamAssassin to Exchange SCL value and therefore enables message routing on Exchange to be based on SpamAssassin spam score.

What is it?
SMTPTracker is a COM component (managed smtp event sink). Once installed and registered on server, it runs within inetinfo.exe process.
SMTPTracker has two installation scenarios. It can be installed on front-end server (mail gateway) only, or on both front-end and back-end servers, when SCL Router Chaining feature is required.

How does it work? Check features section
SMTPTracker binds itself to SMTP OnInboundCommand and OnTransportSubmission events (smtp service transport core). When enabled, it filters all messages passing through SMTP server. It can co-exist with other anti-spam (or other types) smtp filters installed on server.
SMTPTracker consist of two parts. The first one checks incoming messages before they enter your system. This part provides anti-spam protection based on Active Directory, custom blacklists, whitelist and realtime block/whitelists of spam sources (DNS blocklists like www.spamhaus.org or www.dsbl.org, or whitelists like www.bondedsender.org).
Second part checks full message contents (including message headers) and enables anti-spam filtering by keywords, message tracking, logging to SQL server, tracking specified sender or recipient and saving copies of passing messages to disk.
Messages detected as SPAM can be routed to users' Junk Mail folders (SCL Routing), when installed on Exchange Server 2003. With SCL Router Chaining SCL headers can be passed from non-Exchange 2003 front-end server to Exchange 2003 back-end server.

Do I need it?
SMTPTracker can be considered an add-on to your current system configuration. If your front-end smtp server does not run some kind of anti-spam software, you may need it. If you are running Exchange 2000, you may need it. If you need to track messages passing your system, you may need it. When you need to save copies of passing messages, you may need it. Even if your system is running Exchange 2003 and the latest anti-spam software, you may need it. SMTPTracker is an extension suitable for almost all configurations.
